Last November I challenged each one of you to take on the issue of Domestic Violence. As you all might be aware, Utah has had four domestic violence murders in the past few weeks. This epidemic has reached alarming levels and we must each do our part to bring an end to this human rights crisis.
Many of you have taken my challenge seriously and have begun the process of bringing help and resources to the most vulnerable among us. These efforts have not gone unnoticed. My Presidents Initiative is being recognized on a national level. NACo will be presenting me with an award at our conference at the end of this month.
I am also pleased to announce that next week, July 11 at 11 am, I will be joining the council members of Salt Lake County to hold a joint press conference in their Council Chambers to announce their signing of a domestic violence resolution from their county. I encourage all who are able to attend and support our friends at Salt Lake County for this important event.
Again, I provided each member of UAC a copy of a domestic violence resolution and I would appreciate it if you would have it signed by July 15. I will be calling each one of you to verify that the resolution has been adopted and that you are beginning the process of addressing this epidemic.
Please make this happen in short order.
