The Department of Environmental Quality’s (DEQ) has proposed their new fee schedule for FY 2019. The Utah League of Cities and Towns and UAC have been working closely with a number of other stakeholders to ensure the fee is fair and equitable for local governments and the populations they serve.
This document (Solid Waste Fee Briefing) contains more details but in essence, the DEQ has proposed an identical fee for commercial and non-commercial landfills. All local county and city officials who either operate your own non-commercial landfill or are members in an interlocal agreement which operates one to express any concerns you may have about paying the same or an effectively higher rate than for-profit commercial landfills.
Please submit a comment to the department, the public comment section is open until Tuesday, September 12th at 5:00PM. Along with the Solid Waste Fee Briefing, we are also linking you to a DEQ Comment Template you can use to submit concerns – feel free to use and modify it as you see fit – and a link to the letter from the Coalition as a whole.
